For a limited time only, you can convert your bank rewards points to KrisFlyer miles and earn a bonus of 15% miles! Offer ends on December 27, 2020.

Bonus miles will be awarded for transfer transactions of a minimum of 10,000 KrisFlyer miles. Not all banks are eligible for this promo. The following banks in the Philippines are part of the promotion:

  • Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI)

  • Citibank

  • EastWest

  • HSBC

  • Metrobank

  • Security bank

Why you should transfer

If you're looking to go west towards Europe, Singapore Airlines might be one of the better options with flights to 11 major airports on Europe. These bonus miles might go a long way in the future and you'll never know when you'll need them.

With a Covid-19 vaccine now available in some parts of the world, its now easier to be optimistic that travel will be back soon.

KrisFlyer does not offer this kind of promotion often so it would be nice to capitalize on the opportunity.

Why you shouldn't transfer

The bad thing about airline miles is they always seem to devalue every now and then. I don't know of one airline loyalty program wherein their points and miles increased in value.

This is because every year millions of miles get added into the system and with inflation reaching 6% globally this year, its almost certain that all airline miles will see more devaluation.

If you have a bucket-list destination you've been saving your points and miles for, make sure you know what airlines fly there. Always always always do your research early. If Singapore Airlines isn't flying to the destination you're eyeing don't transfer your points since you'll be stuck with unused KrisFlyerMiles in your account risking expiry and devaluation.

My family were planning to go to Switzerland on points the other year and accidentally transferred all our credit card points to Mabuhay miles, not knowing that Philippine Airlines does not fly to Switzerland and does not have any partner airlines to Switzerland.

We ended up having thousands of Mabuhay miles just stagnant there while we could have used them for the peak season trip. We ended up buying expensive tickets on Cathay Pacific but also had to cancel last minute for other reasons.

Bottomline

If you're set on flying on a Singapore Airline route next year then you should definitely take advantage of the bonus miles and transfer.

If you have no idea where to go yet, you can hold on to your miles in your credit card or maybe just make a small transfer so you get a little bonus miles while still keeping a chunk of your other miles flexible.
