How to clean your credit cards

As the Coronavirus continues to spread in the Philippines, credit and debit cards have seen increased utility especially for online purchases, but we can't always buy everything online and there are times buying things personally like in the grocery store, for example is more convenient.

The Coronavirus has made us all a little paranoid, or maybe even a lot more. We are careful to always wash and disinfect our hands but we often forget about our wallets and cards.

Surprisingly enough, the same way we wash our hands can be used to wash credit cards. Yup you read that right! you can clean your credit card by washing with soap and water while rubbing for 20 seconds. But if you get anxiety thinking you might be destroying your card don't worry as there are other ways.

The other ways to clean credit cards are more simple and just as effective. UV sterilizers had been a hit lately as it uses UV light to kill viruses and bacteria. Be careful though as UV light can also cause damage to our skin and our eyes!

Credit cards are waterproof and should be able to withstand products such as diluted bleach and alcohol, although I don't advise in soaking them. Just a gentle wipe with down with a cloth or tissue will do. Be aware as it could wipe off your signature at the back of the card, but you can just sign it again if that happens.

Also don't scrub the EMV chip with anything abrasive as that may damage it. Gentle wipes will do the trick!

Bottom line

Credit cards don't pose too much threat in getting Covid-19 but we can never be too safe these days especially with the rise of cases in the country. Fortunately it's pretty simple to clean credit cards.

The best way to avoid contracting the virus is still observing social distancing measures and following the recommendations of our health officials. Stay safe Everyone!
