What you need to know about GetGo's program update

Cebu Pacific's loyalty program GetGo has recently just announced a new change to the program, specifically a change to earning points.

As a current GetGo member you can earn 1 GetGo point for every ₱5 spend on Cebu Pacific flights and add-ons (excluding taxes and other fees). Its with this earn rate I personally found it faster to redeem for free flights compared to other airlines, but with the new change it might not be the case anymore.

The New Program

As seen in the chart above, GetGo will be adding tiers to their program. To now enjoy the earn rate of 1 point per ₱5, which we currently have, we now need to have one of their co-branded credit card with UnionBank in our wallets.

The GetGo debit card and prepaid cards have also been categorized in one of the tiers earning you 1 point for every ₱10 spend on Cebu Pacific flights and 1 point for every ₱100 spend on everything else. To be honest its a nice effort for Cebu Pacific and UnionBank to have a debit card that actually has the ability to earn points even though its a low earn rate because most debit cards have no points system at all.

If you're a regular GetGo member with none of the GetGo cards then you'll earn a point for every ₱20 spend on Cebu Pacific flights.

These changes will take effect on August 15, 2020.

Bottom Line

GetGo claims to be making big improvements to the program, which is their reason for making the change. It is most likely a financial move as well to save money in the long run as the airline is currently losing millions every month from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Having one of the GetGo cards is a good idea as you earn more points and you get more value. The debit and prepaid cards should be fairly easy to get at UnionBank but if you don't have a stable job or income source it might be a bit tougher to acquire one of their credit cards.
